The Fruits of Contemplative Prayer and Rewiring Our Brain
Here is a short video I posted on YouTube to Advertise my class, The Fruits of Contemplative Prayer and Rewiring Our Brain.
Picture a town with several libraries, businesses, and art studios. As people go between the firms, the city builds roads and sidewalks to route all the traffic. That is a metaphor of our brain and how our brain wires itself with thoughts. Now imagine that one of those libraries buys a book that “proves” aliens created ski lifts to subjugate Koala Bears. Please note, if you experienced anything about what I just said, then you have had a thought, and that thought has generated emotions in your body already.  Now go a step further and imagine that you do not believe the book and your best friend does.

Immediately, our mind starts inventing rationalizations to support our position, and so does our friend’s.  How do we accept our opinion and our friends with the least amount of negative feelings, though? Using this example, we have an idea about how our brain is wired for our thoughts and by them. This is where contemplative prayer becomes important.
 
The benefits of contemplative prayer, or any meditation for that matter, can be summed up with AADLG: Awareness, Acceptance, Discernment, and Letting Go.  These are a few of the skills that we learn while practicing contemplative prayer. You have probably heard the saying, neurons that fire together wire together.  Centering Prayer requires our brain to fire neurons that wire us for ADDLG.

Hi, my name is Blair Ashby. On Saturday, October 1oth, from 9 AM until noon, I will teach a class live on Zoom called The Fruits of Contemplative Prayer and Rewiring Our Brain.  Will you please join me?  In this class, we will explore many of the ways Centering Prayer wires our brain for Awareness, Acceptance, Discernment, and Letting Go.  These skills then offer us possibilities to live our lives easier and happier.  Please register for the class at Centering Prayer.net; I will put the link in the description.  I invite you to join me, and together we can learn how contemplative prayer fills our lives with more Joy, Peace, and Contentment through AADLG.  I look forward to seeing you on the 10th.
